COBRAT: Strategy - Status

Launch from Kourou : During weak stratospheric winds (to stay close to the launching site)

  • “Safe” tropical region with the possibility to use CNES facility
  • Good probability of TLE/TGF observations

Several gondolas:

  • Long duration flights ==> Risk of loosing the payload (recovery in the sea ?)
  • Different scientific objectives (TLE, TGF, chemistry)

Main issues to be solved:

  • Telemetry limitation
  • Needs of technical flights to test the long duration balloons and instruments

Project status:

  • Project submitted to CNES in 2009


GOAL : 1 campaign per 18 month during the lifetime of TARANIS and ASIM
