Generation mechanisms for TLEs, TGFs and runaway electron beams

Characterization of TLEs and TGFs region sources
Questions to be addressed On-board instruments Studies to be performed
▪ Identify the parameters that may constrain the generation mechanisms for TLEs, TGFs and runaway electron beams taken separately or considered as consequences of the same physical process;


▪ Test generation mechanisms.

▪ Cameras and photometers;
▪ X- and gamma-rays;
▪ Relativistic and energetic electrons;
▪ Wave field measurements from DC to 30 MHz
▪ Zero+ whistler detector
▪ Ion probe.

▪ Identify characteristic parameters for each type of event (optical and spatial structures for sources of TLEs, energy spectra and spatial structures for Gamma ray and X ray bursts, energy and pitch angles distributions for bursts of precipitated and accelerated particles, etc);


▪ Identify the links with environmental conditions;


▪ Investigate and test potential models of generation.
